Curt Kohlberg: The Returning Champion

If not for the 2005 Grand Prix De Paris event of the World Poker Tour, Curt Kohlberg would not be recognized as one of the best players there is in the poker circuit; he won 5th place at the € 10,000 event. Before his World Poker Tour participation, Kohlberg has played and succeeded in other tournaments. He has also joined some World Series of Poker events but hasn't got a bracelet yet.

Kohlberg's playing style is cautious, conservative but aggressive. Through the years, his game play has changed a bit but still the aggressive approach is always present at every game. He even has his own mathematical and analytical theories when playing the game. Strategy is his key to a successful play; whether it's based on mathematics or the basics.

Kohlberg attended college in the University of Massachusetts Amherst and while still a collegiate, he played poker just for fun. He is excellent at 7-card stud and five-card draw. He managed to keep his card-playing and university life under control and even has several successes along the way. He has maintained an excellent grade-point average in the Isenberg School of Management, managed a sports column in the university paper, participated and won at the university intramural paddleball and racquetball championships, and launched his T-shirt business at rock concerts.

He attended graduate school at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management. His busy grad school life occupied most of his time so he wasn't able to play cards as often. After graduating, Kohlberg worked in Wall Street.

Kohlberg focused more on his job when he and his wife divorced. But life has to go on for Kohlberg so he worked even harder and set his sights on to his professional objectives. He later met Allegra Manacher, a colleague from Amherst, and re-married. Come 1997, Kohlberg was up and trying his hands again in poker. He entered a $ 500 7-card stud buy-in tournament in Foxwoods,

Connecticut at the encouragement of his wife. He won the game and came back just after three days to participate at the World Poker final event where he took home the victory amounting to $ 130,000. Curt Kohlberg has no plans of going pro, but being admired and respected by other great players simply gives him the thrill of his life. He resides in Weston with his wife, two daughters and his son from his previous marriage.
